We all make mistakes, right? Well, mine was a big one. It almost made me quit the industry altogether. But it also taught me a lesson I’ll never forget.
Here’s what happened:
I had a hot lead, a perfect prospect who needed exactly what I was offering. I was so confident that I’d close the deal that I didn’t bother to prepare. I figured, “I’ve got this.”
Spoiler: I didn’t.
What went wrong:
I focused too much on selling and not enough on listening. Instead of understanding their needs, I pushed my product. By the time I realized my mistake, it was too late—they’d lost trust in me.
The lesson:
People don’t buy insurance—they buy peace of mind. If you’re not listening to what your clients need, you’re missing the point.
Conclusion:
That mistake stung, but it made me a better agent. Now, I always go into meetings prepared, and I focus on solving problems—not selling policies.
